A Shortened History of Bundaberg Q.R.I.
Social Bowls Club - (up to 2006.)
After the formation of the State Body of
Queensland Railways Institute Social Bowls Club in 1948, a number of Bundaberg
railwaymen who played lawn bowls showed an interest in becoming members of that
body.
On the 22nd of February, 1953 a meeting was called to consider forming a branch
at Bundaberg. Those who attended that meeting were J.Grimwood, C.Rawlings,
W.McLean, G.Farmer, A.Pederson, T.Webb, A.Humphrey, H.Grohn and R.Thorne. An
apology was received from B.Kelly who had consented to take on the position of
Secretary-Treasurer if a branch was formed. On the motion of C.Rawlings and
A.Humphrey it was decided that a branch of the Q.R.I.S.B.C. at Bundaberg would
be formed.
The first office bearers were elected as follows-
President - J.Grimwood
Vice President W.McLean
Secretary Treasurer B.Kelly
Selectors R.Thorne, W.McLean, J.Grimwood
The meeting decided the subscription for members be five shillings up to June
